I jokingly tell people that I could eat at a different restaurant every day for a year and still barely scratch the surface of everything Houston has to offer.
So how does one decide where to dine in a city with so many choices? Sometimes it comes down to cravings, but more often it’s familiarity with what the city offers and knowing which places consistently deliver. Location also plays a major role. Since I both live and work inside the 610 Loop, many of my food adventures tend to revolve around restaurants that are easily accessible during the work week. While the Bellaire Asia Town area remain favorite haunts of mine, I usually save those outings, along with most Outer Loop exploring, for weekends when I’m not pressed for time.
Besides word of mouth from trusted foodie friends, CultureMap, Eater Houston, and the Houstonia are great resources for putting new restaurants on my radar.
I naturally gravitate toward Asian food and lighter cuisine, though I’m open to trying almost anything as long as it feels worthwhile and thoughtfully executed. Above all, restaurants still have to pass what friends jokingly refer to as my Dining Out Rules.
The goal of this website is simple: to share honest, uninfluenced thoughts on both new restaurants and longtime favorites around Houston. I don’t have formal culinary training — I’m simply a Houstonian with a deep appreciation for food, someone who enjoys learning about different cultures through cuisine, and who values the way good meals bring people together.
