I’ve never been a big fan of the “junk food” topping on desserts, but all the pretty Instagram posts had me curious about the ice cream itself. I visited on a Friday night and despite it being relatively early in the evening (6:30PM), it was fairly packed.
I’m not sure if the flavors rotate monthly like Aqua S and since there was a line, I didn’t want to be inconsiderate and hold up the line by asking too many questions. Diners though had the option of the swirl of two flavors or a single flavor on cup ($4.25), waffle cone ($4.50), or waffle bowl ($4.75). Flavors included Strawberry/Banana (Vegan), Fruity Pebbles/Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Charcoal Pineapple/Vanilla, Cocoa Puffs/Earl Grey, and Chocolate/Matcha. Being the matcha lover that I am, I opted for the Matcha/Chocolate combination on top of a matcha waffle cone. Sample tastings were available and I was able to try the Cocoa Puffs/Earl Grey and the Strawberry/Banana. I wouldn’t mind Earl Grey by itself, but in combination with the Cocoa Puffs, made it too sweet.
Fancy toppings aside, the soft serve ice cream and waffle were good quality. and I appreciate a place that doesn’t try to hide their inferior ice cream with a myriad of junk food toppings.
The storefront is located in a section of Bellaire that’s less active than the Dun Huang center, so it wasn’t difficult to find parking. My only “complaint” is the layout doesn’t allow for comfortable seating and the music was loud to the point it was difficult to hold conversations. Useful if businesses are trying to discourage loitering afterwards to encourage higher traffic.
Still, I liked it enough to recommend and to add it the dessert rotation.
