    Bae

I’ve never been a big fan of the “junk food” topping on desserts, but all the pretty Instagram posts had me curious about the ice cream itself. I visited on a Friday night and despite it being relatively early in the evening (6:30PM), it was fairly packed. I’m not sure if the flavors rotate monthly like Aqua S and since there was a line, I didn’t want to be inconsiderate and hold up the line by asking too many questions. Diners though had the option of the swirl of two flavors or a single flavor on cup ($4.25), waffle cone ($4.50), or waffle bowl ($4.75). Flavors included Strawberry/Banana (Vegan), Fruity…

    Sul Bing Su

My last visit out to Katy Asian Town for dessert was met with mediocre results, so I was uncertain whether this second visit would be another similarly disappointing experience. I’m happy to report that the Sul Bing Su met and exceeded every one of my expectations. I ordered the Matcha Ice Cream Taiyaki with a Pistachio Macaron. There’s the option of filling it with Nutella or Custard, but I opted for simply the Matcha Ice Cream. I appreciated that the ice cream was made from high quality ingredients unlike some of the other establishments in Bellaire that focus on novelty instead of actual quality ice cream. The fish shaped waffle…

    Beard Papa

I’ve been dying to try this place out ever since I heard about the opening, but with Katy being quite the trek, I opted to wait for some of the hoopla to die down to avoid the lines as well as for an opportunity to actually be in the area. I arrived around 1PM to find only 2 other diners inside and the 2 later groups of people who arrived after me, primarily ordering take out requests. I ordered my standard matcha latte and a green tea puff to eat there — figured if it was amazing, I would order more to take home. I wasn’t quite sure what to…

    EggHaus Gourmet

Managed to snag Soft VIP Opening tickets thanks to a tip by the food bestie. The $7 ticket allowed entry and ensured a choice of either: 1 egg sandwich, 2 tacos, or 3 kolaches (savory or sweet) with the option to purchase additional items which also included pastries and drinks. I had no trouble finding parking when I arrived around 9AM to a friendly staff member standing outside. She took my ticket information and exchanged it for an actual ticket stub with explanations as to how the ordering process worked. Each of the staff members inside were also friendly and patiently answered questions about the menu items. With two ticket…

    Matcha Cafe Maiko

I’ve died and gone to matcha heaven! Never before have I dined at a place in Houston (or elsewhere in another Asiantown), where there was such a variety of offerings and every single item on the menu had matcha in it. Definitely one of those times I wish I had multiple stomachs or at the least, brought a large group with me so I could try more items. I should warn that the matcha here is strong and has a slight bitterness to it. Those accustomed to the lighter (and diluted) variety found in American Establishments will be in for a shock. I went around 6:30PM and didn’t have to…

    Blkdog Coffee

I’d never expected to find pizza that I would enjoy in Bellaire, but sure enough, the business group responsible for Mein has brought another successful concept to the Clarewood shopping center. The Original Pizza was light and reminiscent of the popular flatbreads found in nicer American restaurants. The Matcha Latte was well balanced and not overly sweet while the the Matcha Beignets might be my new favorite thing to order in Bellaire. As with other popular places in Bellaire, seating can be an issue at peak times. However, drinks could be easily ordered to go, so that would bypass the waiting around for a table. Definitely worth checking out! I…

    B&T Cafe

Kept seeing posts of this place in my Instagram feed and decided to pay them a visit. I haven’t had a good banh mi for lunch since Les Bagets changed concepts at their Montrose location. I’m not a fan of Les Girvals or Oui Banh Mi and Roostar is too far of a drive for lunch, so I was hopeful that this place might be the replacement sandwich place I needed. The place is family owned and everyone was diligently working to quickly make drinks and sandwiches for the customers. Everything was fresh and my favorite part of the meal was the softness of the bread. Nothing irritates me more…
