BB Lemon
I typically like to give a restaurant a few weeks to find it’s flow before visiting, but a lobster roll craving brought me out earlier than planned. Unfortunately, the roll was a popular item and they ran out by 5PM. Opting to sit outside, the place had a steady flow of diners through the door throughout the night. The environment is more casual that it’s sister restaurant ( B&B Butchers ) and there were a few families with young children in attendance. The kids were well behaved and warmly welcomed by the staff. The Crab Beignets and Banana Pudding were by far my favorite items on the menu and I would…

BurgerIM
Burgers aren’t usually something I actively seek out, but when I do indulge, certain expectations have to be met like a soft bun, a flavorful patty, and decent side options. What I experienced today was barely passable as a burger. The patty was cooked to the point to where I could probably have sanded down woodwork with it. On top of that, the meat was flavorless — the only thing I COULD taste was the swiss cheese and avocado. It was like some oxymoronic attempt at being healthier by omitting all the salt and oils. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t mind a dry patty. For instance, the patties at…

Beard Papa
I’ve been dying to try this place out ever since I heard about the opening, but with Katy being quite the trek, I opted to wait for some of the hoopla to die down to avoid the lines as well as for an opportunity to actually be in the area. I arrived around 1PM to find only 2 other diners inside and the 2 later groups of people who arrived after me, primarily ordering take out requests. I ordered my standard matcha latte and a green tea puff to eat there — figured if it was amazing, I would order more to take home. I wasn’t quite sure what to…

Rim Tanon
I’ve been on a Thai kick lately and wanted to check out a new restaurant near work. I was never a fan of Blue Fish, but was interested in checking out the Thai restaurant that took up residence at it’s old spot. Knowing that parking limit in this particular area, I left early to avoid any potential parking issues. I love basil and would have normally ordered the Pad Kee Mao, but several of the Yelp reviews rated it badly, so I opted for Pad See Ew instead. The meal was flavorful but sweeter than I remember this dish being. I enjoyed my meal, but the protein to noodle ratio…

Ramen Tatsuya & TRUTH BBQ
When news hit social media about another TatsuyaXTruth collaboration, I cleared my calendar for the event. I missed last year’s offering due to a prior engagement, but was determined not to miss again this year. I arrived at 4PM to find about 50 people already in front of me in line. It started drizzling at some point, but no one seemed to bothered by a little rain or came prepared with umbrellas. Once the doors open at 5PM, the line went pretty quickly, and I was able to order, be seated, and receive my food by 5:20PM. Besides the brisket being more filling than the chashu, the broth was heavier…

EggHaus Gourmet
Managed to snag Soft VIP Opening tickets thanks to a tip by the food bestie. The $7 ticket allowed entry and ensured a choice of either: 1 egg sandwich, 2 tacos, or 3 kolaches (savory or sweet) with the option to purchase additional items which also included pastries and drinks. I had no trouble finding parking when I arrived around 9AM to a friendly staff member standing outside. She took my ticket information and exchanged it for an actual ticket stub with explanations as to how the ordering process worked. Each of the staff members inside were also friendly and patiently answered questions about the menu items. With two ticket…

Matcha Cafe Maiko
I’ve died and gone to matcha heaven! Never before have I dined at a place in Houston (or elsewhere in another Asiantown), where there was such a variety of offerings and every single item on the menu had matcha in it. Definitely one of those times I wish I had multiple stomachs or at the least, brought a large group with me so I could try more items. I should warn that the matcha here is strong and has a slight bitterness to it. Those accustomed to the lighter (and diluted) variety found in American Establishments will be in for a shock. I went around 6:30PM and didn’t have to…

Kau Ba Saigon Kitchen & Bar
I was happy to learn the Chef would open a restaurant in Houston after watching Episode 4 of Netflix’s Ugly Delicious. She spoke with so much conviction about Viejun food that my taste buds were excited to try something new. A part of me was also giddy with the prospect of the Chef possibly offering Bun Bo Hue on their menu in the near future. Despite going on a Saturday at noon, the restaurant was fairly empty with only 3 to 4 other groups dining at the same time. I sat at the bar and the bartender who served me was incredibly friendly and attentive. As much as I wanted…

Blkdog Coffee
I’d never expected to find pizza that I would enjoy in Bellaire, but sure enough, the business group responsible for Mein has brought another successful concept to the Clarewood shopping center. The Original Pizza was light and reminiscent of the popular flatbreads found in nicer American restaurants. The Matcha Latte was well balanced and not overly sweet while the the Matcha Beignets might be my new favorite thing to order in Bellaire. As with other popular places in Bellaire, seating can be an issue at peak times. However, drinks could be easily ordered to go, so that would bypass the waiting around for a table. Definitely worth checking out! I…

Buff Burger
Instagram alerted me to Buff Burger now having lobster rolls on Fridays. I don’t know if it’s a summer special or if they will continue to offer it indefinitely, but I couldn’t pass up an opportunity to try their take on the lobster roll. This isn’t the first time I’ve dined here so I was already familiar with their service and food. Just a heads up, besides being card only, you will leave the restaurant smelling like smoke from the burgers. Not a terrible thing, but just something to be aware of when dining here. The bread was incredibly soft and buttery. They had more relish than I wanted, but…
